VANWEST F.C.
When you travel to another country to work or study, it can be really hard for you to adapt to a new culture, new people, new language, new city, etc. The easiest way to overcome all these challenges and to have an enjoyable time in your new adventure can be to make new friends that you can have fun and learn new things together. Here at VanWest College, we are having different events or activities to help the students to make new friends while enjoying what the city has to offer: hiking, going to the beach, play board games, explore UBC, etc. But lately we started a new activity/event that made the student create a big group of friends and they had a lot of fun doing together: a soccer tournament.
VanWest F.C.
Last Thursday, we had our first soccer game in a tournament we are participating here in Vancouver. Different international colleges from all around the city will be participating in this tournament bringing the students from different countries to play and support the team.
Before the game, the players were really nervous and the fans were really excited, but as soon as the match started, everyone had an amazing time. The weather was really good and sunny, and the players were getting used to play with each other. Sweat, yelling and handshakes were part of a very tough game against Cornerstone College. But soon the celebration started when our striker “Kota” scored the first goal.
From there, the team was able to relax, enjoy their time, defend the 1-0 lead and, with the final whistle, celebrate the first victory from VanWest FC. The team was a big group of friends hugging and celebrating together after 50 minutes running and defending.
After 6 days from the first game I’m writing this blog, everyone is excited because tomorrow (June 13, 2024) we get to play our second game, nervous again, but excited for what’s about to come.
One thing is sure from here, the students who play the games and the students who support the team, will take an amazing memory when they graduate and embarking to a new adventure. Sports always create bonds among people, and it will continue to do so.
LET’S GO VANWEST F.C.
