Student Experience of Mya and Andrea
The amazing Monserrat twins; Mya and Andrea from Mexico, also graces us with an English testimonial. Similar to their Spanish version, they wrote this in a question and answer format. Special thanks to their one-of-a kind student advisor, Roger for collecting their answers in both Spanish and English.
Mya and Andrea has actually provided our readers who can speak Spanish and English a bonus. They have answered a different set of questions for each which means more insight in their study abroad experience.
What made you choose Vancouver to come and study English?
Well, the main reason why we chose Vancouver to study English is its diverse cultural experiences. It means we have the opportunity to interact with people from different backgrounds. Vancouver also offers beautiful surroundings that provide a balance of urban life and outdoor activities. Moreover, its safety and exciting city life make it a perfect option for us.
Do you think studying in Vancouver changed you? If so, how have you changed?
Of course, moving away from our familiar surroundings and social networks made us more responsible and self-reliant in adapting to a new lifestyle. Additionally, the cultural exposure we experienced in Vancouver greatly expanded our understanding of the world.
Did the school staff support you during this time?
Yes, all the staff provided me with support and help when we needed it, but my advisor Roger, in particular, was instrumental in providing us guidance in every doubt that we had. This not only made our time here easier but also made us feel included and appreciated.
Was it easy to make friends when you arrived?
In my experience, yes. When we came here, we were a little worried about making new friends. However, we were pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to make friends in VanWest. Everyone was very friendly with us, making it much easier to have interesting conversations. Additionally, this colleague provided us social activities, creating more opportunities to make friends.
Did the school help you to achieve your academic goals?
In the beginning, we were completely lost in the world of academic English. Fortunately, we were fortunate to have excellent teachers who were kind and patient whenever we had doubts. They helped us improve more quickly and efficiently.
“Hi, my name is Roger, I was born in Spain but I have been living in Canada for 3 years but I’ve lived in 4 different countries: Spain, Finland, UK and Canada.”
