Conversation Club
Hi, It’s Rimi! I’m so glad to share my experience here with you all again. This time, I would like to share my experience of the Conversation Club at VanWest College.
What is it?
Conversation Club is one of our activities that is usually held on Tuesday and Thursday. I have joined it three times so far, and I’ve had a good time each session. Honestly, I thought conversation club would be too academic or too formal as an activity. I would later figure out it’s just like having a normal chat with friends and is very fun.
From my experience, I really want to highlight that this is a very good opportunity to make new friends. When I joined it for the first time, I immediately made a Korean friend. We started a conversation with simple self-introductions and asked some questions to get to know each other better. Even though we were supposed to have it for an hour, since we really enjoyed talking together, we moved to a café to continue the conversation. We actually grabbed some dinner together the other day and had a good time again. I didn’t expect at all that I could make such good friends from this activity.
Thinking outside the box
At the second session, Paola the activity leader, the other students, and I were discussing how to get more students to participate in the Conversation Club. We exchanged our ideas and suggestions from our own perspectives. One of the interesting ideas was having the activity at a café over coffee or something so that we can do it just like friends who are hanging out.
Based on that idea, we tried to have the next session at a café. Compared to engaging at school, It did feel more like we were friends hanging out rather than joining an after-school activity.
If you are thinking about joining our Conversation Club, I totally recommend you do so! You can make new friends, you can practice speaking English a lot and of course, you can have fun. I hope you join the next session!
One more thing
By the way, how are you going to spend Christmas this year? I went to the Christmas Market and enjoyed a variety of holiday foods and drinks. I got a Christmas card from my parents, and I sent some gifts to them in return. I’m already enjoying the holidays. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a joyful new year! Thank you for reading, see you next time!
