10 Activities for a Rainy Vancouver Day
"It's raining, it's pouring!" - Vancouverites
Ask anyone who has spent a couple of months in Vancouver and you will probably come across this fun little nickname: Raincouver.
It fits!
Living in Vancouver means that you will have to get used to the occasional rain check on that hike you had planned, or your Robson shopping spree. However, never let the rain get you down! Put on your rain boots, grab your trusty umbrella and try one of the following activities:
- Go watch a movie with friends
Tuesdays are a great day to go, since all Silvercity theatres will have a special discount. If you do go on a Tuesday, a little piece of advice: be sure to make it to the theatre early to grab your seats. - Visit a museum or art gallery
UBC’s Museum of Anthropology is very popular, and you can get admission to the Vancouver Art Gallery by donation on Tuesdays after 5 P.M. This is a great way to learn more about Canadian culture! - Visit the Aquarium
Located in Stanley Park, the aquarium is a great activity on sunny or rainy days. Check it out! - Plan a day at Science World
This iconic building is dedicated to education and fostering a love of science. It’s good for both children and adults, and there is always an interesting exhibit to see. - Go to Granville Island
The Public Market is a popular tourist destination. On a rainy day, you can enjoy this vibrant indoor market without having to deal with large crowds of people. - Have coffee
While the UK loves its tea, we in Canada (and especially Vancouver) love our coffee. You can go to one of the many Tim Hortons for some decent, cheaper drinks. If don’t mind spending a bit more money and you’re feeling more daring, there are many great coffee shops all around Vancouver; Timbertrain in Gastown, 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters on Main Street, or Platform 7 on East Hastings to name a few. - Have a beer
There is a dizzying amount of choice for you if you are a beer lover in Vancouver. There are many pubs with a fun atmosphere so you can drink with your new friends. If you want a different experience, head on down to Craft Beer Market, where you can try over 100 different types of beer. Would you like to play board games while drinking? Try Storm Crow Tavern. Would you like a pub that has ping pong? Go on down to Back and Forth Bar. - Try indoor bowling
There are 5-pin bowling alleys, such as Commodore Lanes on Granville Street, or 10-pin bowling alleys, like Grandview Lanes on Commercial Drive. It’s a fun group activity that doesn’t cost much to enjoy. - Go shopping
We have a decent variety of indoor malls. The most commonly visited is Metrotown in Burnaby, but we also have Pacific Centre, Brentwood Mall, Aberdeen Mall, and many others. - Try out a new restaurant
Vancouver is a multicultural city, so there are many different types of restaurants and lots of different dishes to try. Challenge yourself to try something new every week!
